Elizabeth R. Whelan is an artist and portrait painter working from her studio on Chappaquiddick Island, a part of Martha's Vineyard. She works primarily in oil on canvas, and enjoys using a narrative approach to portraiture and figurative painting. Many of her paintings showcase those who are highly skilled at creating work by hand and she is keen to support the local art and artisan communities with an interest in preserving heritage and promoting mastery.
Whelan's observation of detail carries over into her other works, with interests ranging from landscape to maritime, agricultural, and botanical subjects. A new body of work in progress highlights the intersection between science and art.
She also offers private drawing and painting classes for adults, and studio tours are available by appointment.
Elizabeth R. Whelan is represented for portraiture by The Field Gallery in West Tisbury, and in the Boston area by Francesca Anderson Fine Art/Portraits North in Lexington. Elizabeth R. Whelan's portrait commissions, landscapes, maritime paintings, and other artwork can be arranged and purchased directly from the artist.
